Today we again decided to hike in Val Rosandra reserve. It is one of the best places for hiking located near Trieste, because of its amazing views and variety of hiking routs. One of this route I have already described in my blog – the easy one 🙂 Today we chose another path, more difficult, but with marvelous landscapes.
easy to medium.
- Hiking boots
- Sun-protection cream
Doing this walk, you will find some nice places, where to have a rest and eat, but if you prefer to take bag lunch, there are also places on the route where you can organize small picnic.
- Download the map of Italy.
- Buy bus tickets. You can find them in Tabaccheria, newsstand or bar.
. The bus runs not often, and I would recommend you to check the schedule in advance on this webpage www.triestetrasporti.it
Bagnoli della Rosandra – View point
But before you will start hiking I would highly recommend you to visit bar Pasticceria OTA (Bagnoli della Rosandra, 66) located right near the bus stop. It offers good coffee and big variety of delicious deserts – dolce. I personally like cakes with ricotta – they are of delicate flavor and not too sweet. My friends ordered “capo in b” I, as usual, preferred cappuccino 🙂
Having enjoyed fresh-brewed coffee, we entered in Val Rosandra and move in the direction of the church San Maria in Siaris. It is small, nonworking church,
In Slovenian language, the church is named Marija na Pečah that means Madonna of the Rocks. Indeed, it is surrounded by rocks. Unfortunately, over the centuries the church remains neglected and only for the last decades due to private donations it was partially restored.
Following the route, we continue to climb. I like this path because it is various: views over small villages, over valley; road along large stones passing into the forest.
And this is the view over the church San Maria in Siaris, we left behind.
Finally, we reach the top of the route, where marvelous landscapes spread before us.
You can observe Bagnoli, Trieste and even the sea.
Even Industrial zone looks nice from this altitude 🙂
View point is also a good place to have your bag lunch if you are hungry 🙂
From View point to Bottazzo
The second part of the route goes mainly in the forest. The track is easy, except the last part, which is steep and covered by sand and stones. It is better to go slowly not to fall down. A bit tricky, but interesting same time.
At the end of the descent there is a small village Bottazzo with only one, but good trattoria. Usually we have a lunch here. To read some notes about this place and recommendations what to order, you can in my previous post devoted to Val Rosandra.
Comeback to Trieste
- To rise up to The Giordano Cottur walking / cycling path. The same post containing trattoria records describes this route. We chose this option, but I have to say it is a long way and if you feel tired, it’s better to opt for the second variant.
- To come back to Bagnoli (see the map below) and from there to take the bus #40 or #41 to reach the center of Trieste. This way passes through the valley, and for sure, you will like it 🙂
